Lyrics (Tigrinya / English)

Asha’aley (ኣሻዓሌይ)

Let the country be set in turmoil because

of you and me.

They will talk of our madness for a while.

As for me I care little about backbiting.

Never mind them, just follow me.

I could see our splendid wedding tent

An object of envy and admiration

People are talking about me in the village

When they saw my plaited hair waving in the wind.

They were filled with owe and admiration.

There was a consternation in the village

Riding on a mule, I shone like the sun

With adorned white dress roaring like a thunder

Can you behold me and remain calm

My hands and feet decorated with henna

My body covered with fragrant herbs

Are you not attracted by all this?

Let the country be set in turmoil

(Refrain)

My heart remains chained by your love

Your heart is throbbing by my love

The village folk will regret what they said

How I long to dance holding you tight

Burning with love by your side

You are the God that I worship

Ashewina, Ashewina, Ashewina

You are my life and my support

You are my life and my support

We have become the center of attraction

Erey (Eritrea) – Faytinga new single and music video

My latest single and music video “Erey” (Eritrea) was released in early February 2025. It is now available on all major music digital platforms and video streaming services. You can find the music video on my YouTube Official Artist channel through the link provided below.

The inspiration for this song comes from a deep love and longing for Eritrea, embodying a strong emotional connection to the homeland and portraying the sacrifices made by its people and their unwavering belief in a brighter future.

Faytinga’s Erey captures the essence of Eritrea’s journey—one marked by struggle, but also by unbreakable hope and love for the nation. It reflects a longing for justice, freedom, and the return of prosperity, painting a vision of Eritrea rising from hardship to a future of democracy and unity.

The lyrics reflect the burden of suffering, the struggle for justice, and the sacrifices made by those who refuse to betray their dignity and remain resilient. It is both a lament for past and present struggles and a hopeful anthem for a brighter tomorrow. The refrain, filled with passion and conviction, expresses unwavering faith that Eritrea will rise again, free from tyranny and division, where law and order prevail.

Ultimately, Erey is a tribute to the Eritrean spirit—unyielding, hopeful, and forever yearning for peace and justice. Through vivid imagery of dawn breaking, farmers tilling the land, and traders moving freely, the song envisions a future where prosperity and democracy will flourish.

The original lyrics in Tigrinya written by Shishai Shumendi are available in the description of the music video posted on YouTube. The English translation, done by Amanuel Sahle, appears as subtitles in the video (see below picture with both versions).

The following people collaborated to develop and produce this song and its associated music video: Temesghen Yared (singer and musician), Shishai Shumendi (songwriter), Girmadawit Haileslasea (melody and music arrangements from Kima Studio), Nahom Debesay (video editor), John Gebre (vocal recording) and Amanuel Sahle (translator). I extend my heartfelt thanks to all of them.

Last but not least, I am very grateful for the contribution of several people who helped cover the costs of producing this song and the accompanying music video.
